Founded in 2022, Unstructured had no prior federal experience when they launched. Recognizing the opportunity to serve the DoD, they partnered with Long Capture that same year to help navigate the federal funding landscape and position their technology for defense use cases.
Despite having a powerful product and strong commercial potential, Unstructured lacked the expertise to access federal funding and scale within the DoD. The SBIR process was unfamiliar, and the path to long-term government engagement was unclear.
Unstructured chose to partner with Long Capture for Federal strategy and execution. Long Capture’s deep expertise in SBIR strategy, proposal development, and DoD engagement empowered Unstructured to pursue—and win—critical funding opportunities that accelerated their growth.
Unstructured set out to transform how organizations process and analyze unstructured data. Their goal was to build a scalable, open-source platform that could support AI and machine learning applications—and to bring that innovation into the Department of Defense (DoD) to drive mission-critical insights.
Unstructured’s platform automates the ingestion and transformation of complex data types—such as PDFs, HTML, and plain text—into structured formats usable by downstream analytics and AI models. It supports a wide range of document types and integrates seamlessly into enterprise data pipelines, making it ideal for defense applications where data complexity and scale are high.
Long Capture began by conducting a strategic assessment of Unstructured’s technology and mapped it to relevant DoD mission needs and SBIR topics. This ensured Unstructured was positioned for success from the start.
Next, Long Capture supported Unstructured through the SBIR proposal process. Their team of experts helped craft compelling technical narratives, commercialization plans, and budgets that resonated with federal evaluators.
After initial SBIR success, Long Capture guided Unstructured through the Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) process. They also continued to identify and pursue large-dollar opportunities to help Unstructured scale its impact and revenue within the DoD.
The Unstructured AI + Long Capture partnership has been a rather lucrative one over the years, resulting in multiple awards, each built off of the other to continue scaling their technology with the Department of Defense.
